As a launch to Black History Month Ashley Down Primary celebrated food from around the world in an after-school event on Friday 5th October 2018. Parents and carers provided a wonderfully wide and enjoyable range of dishes from all over the world. A healthy sum of £333.71 was raised for the school. Pupils, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and teachers alike all enjoyed tasting delicious food both savoury and sweet. Those normally reluctant to try unfamiliar food were tempted to taste new things; encouraged by seeing others enjoying all the fabulous food.
There was a lovely warmth to the event that was due to more than just the glorious autumnal sunshine. It was a fantastic community celebration of our school’s generous and diverse community. The time and care taken in preparing all the beautiful food was so clear to see and taste. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed dishes!
“Food is not just fuel. Food is about family, food is about community, food is about identity. And we nourish all those things when we eat well.” – Michael Pollan
